14 new Covid deaths recorded in Somerset last week Bath City News

Fourteen people died of Covid-19 in Somerset last week, according to the latest official figures.

Three deaths have been confirmed in each of Somerset West and Taunton, South Somerset and Mendip, while there were two in North Somerset and Sedgemoor. Meanwhile, Bath and North East Somerset have recorded one death in the past seven days.

Each person who died had tested positive for Covid in the last 28 days of their life.

There were also 9,497 new cases reported countywide over the past week. North Somerset has seen the biggest increase in infections with 2,358 additional positive tests.

There were 1,820 new cases in Somerset West and Taunton, and a further 1,624 in South Somerset. Bath and North East Somerset have recorded 1,596 other infections.

Sedgemoor reported 1,079 new cases and there were 1,020 in Mendip.

The number of positive test results in each area since the start of the pandemic is shown below, with new positive test results over the past week in parentheses:
