Easter Bank Holiday benefit payment dates, including Universal Credit and Child Benefit UK News

Universal Credit, child allowance and tax credits are among the payments set to be affected by the upcoming Easter bank holiday weekend.

Payment dates for the millions of households receiving government assistance will change during this time. And now the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has revealed the key dates for your spring break diary.

The DWP, which handles the payments, said if you’re due on Friday April 15, you’ll get your money a day earlier on Thursday April 14 instead. But if you are due to be paid on Monday April 18, you will also be paid on Thursday April 14 – three days earlier.

This covers most benefits such as tax credits, pension payments and Universal Credit if your usual payment date falls on a public holiday, reports the Mirror.

A similar change will occur during the May bank holiday and for the bank holidays marking the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, which means that if your payment date lands on Monday May 2, you can expect to receive your money on Friday. April 29, due to the public holiday.

Similarly, for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, if your payment date falls on Thursday June 2 or Friday June 3, you can expect to receive your money on Wednesday June 1 as those days are public holidays.

If the amount you receive or expect to receive is not enough, you can apply for hardship compensation, but you will have to pay it back. You can find out more about this at the government website .

Family allowance payment dates

Child Benefit pays £21.15 per week for the first child and £14.95 per week for subsequent children to eligible parents.

From April it increases to £21.80 per week and £14.45 per week for additional children.

If you are due to be paid on Friday, April 15, the DWP indicates that you will be paid on April 14 instead.

Likewise, if you are due to be paid on Monday, April 18, you will receive your payment on April 14 instead.

If your payment date falls on a normal day that is not a public holiday, you will receive your payment as normal. All payments are automatic – so you won’t need to contact the DWP if you’re concerned.

Tax credit payment dates are also changing

The tax credits operate as a separate system and are paid to families who need them the most, such as those who need help caring for children, who are disabled or who have low incomes.

There are two types of tax credit: the child tax credit and the working tax credit. You may be eligible for one or both, depending on your situation.

Payment period :

Payable: Friday, April 15, 2022 – Paid: Thursday, April 14, 2022

Payable: Monday, April 18, 2022 – Paid: Thursday, April 14, 2022

What about Universal Credit payments?

Depending on your “Assessment Period”, the date you can expect to receive your Universal Credit will change around Easter.

This period begins on the date you first apply for benefits, and you will then receive money each calendar month thereafter. Funds are generally released 7 days after the end of the initial evaluation period.

But, as the Easter weekend gives millions of workers two days off, the money you expect to receive could change in date.

If you expect to receive your money on Friday April 15 or Monday April 18, you can expect to have the money in your bank account on Thursday April 14.

That’s because Friday is Good Friday, so it’s a holiday, and Monday is Easter Monday, another holiday.

Payment period :

Payable: Friday, April 15, 2022 – Paid: Thursday, April 14, 2022

Payable: Monday, April 18, 2022 – Paid: Thursday, April 14, 2022

What about state pension, ESA, income support, care allowance and other benefits over Easter?

As with Universal Credit – if you need to pay on Easter Friday or Easter Monday, support will be provided the previous Thursday.

This also applies to Attendance Allowance, State Pension, Caregiver Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Pension Credit and Personal Independence Payments.
