POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two police officers were injured in an accident involving five vehicles during a chase.
All three lanes of the M23 were closed northbound on Saturday March 26, following the accident between junction 10 A264 Copthorne Way (Crawley) and the M25 interchange.
Police said officers responded to an automated northbound number plate recognition on the M23 at Patcham.
Officers chased the vehicle, a black Audi, which was traveling at excessive speed, police said.
Five vehicles were then involved in an accident on the M23, including two police cars which were not part of the pursuit.
Three people, including two police officers, were injured as a result of the accident.
A 23-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of narcotics, driving without a license and driving without insurance.
The incident happened around 11:05 a.m.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage is asked to email email@example.com or call 101, quoting the serial number 223 of 03/26.
In a statement, National Highways South-East previously said emergency services were working at the scene with Sussex Police leading the response.
“The M23 is closed northbound between J10 (Crawley) and J8 (M25) following a collision with multiple vehicles,” a spokesperson said.
“Please allow extra time for your trip and seek an alternative route if possible.”
