New Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV: the luxury EV is coming on April 19 Car News

Mercedes-Benz will unveil the new premium member of its EQ family of electric cars, the EQS SUV, on April 19.

Previewed in a final teaser ahead of its debut, the EQS SUV will rely heavily on its Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan sibling for design cues and technical specs, but will also take some stylistic influence from the Maybach SUV concept. Last year’s EQS concept, which itself will become a production car in 2023.

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV has already been unveiled. A 56-inch curved screen, consisting of an instrument panel, infotainment screen and third passenger screen, is the centerpiece of the cabin. Named MBUX Hyperscreen, it is an additional familiar accessory to the EQS sedan and is capable of displaying streaming video or TV even on the go. The company had previously described it as a “great in-vehicle cinema”.

Mercedes has insisted the system is safe to use on the move, as it uses “intelligent camera-based blocking logic” which automatically dims if it detects the driver is looking at the screen rather than the road.

Drivers can choose between five and seven seats, and Mercedes claimed there’s enough space in the trunk for up to four golf bags.

Seven interior color combinations are available to choose from, featuring leather and real wood materials that Mercedes says give the EQS SUV “an exceptionally progressive, saloon-like vibe”. One spec, which includes magnolia wood and stainless steel, features small holes in the shape of a Mercedes star.

Additionally, the EQS SUV gets a premium Dolby Atmos audio system and Mercedes’ Energizing Air Control Plus system.

It also gains its own fragrance, called No.6 Mood Mimosa, which is described as “an earthy scent tinged with subtly sensual notes.”
