Dan Burn and Kieran Trippier in packed crowd for Sam Fender at Newcastle UK News

Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier sent a cheeky message to Sunderland after going to watch Sam Fender in action on Tuesday night, with team-mate Dan Burn also spotted in the crowd.

With tickets to both of Sam’s shows at Utilita Arena like gold dust, fans were flocking to social media with hours to go in hopes of getting their hands on a last-minute pair. And two people lucky enough to be part of Sam Fender’s crowd on Tuesday night were United players Kieran and Dan.

Kieran hasn’t returned from Dubai for a long time, having been left out of Eddie Howe’s squad for weeks through injury. The England international took to Twitter after leaving the arena to post a video of Sam performing the encore track Hypersonic Missiles, the title track from his first of two number 1 albums.

And he couldn’t resist a cheeky dig at Newcastle’s Wearside rivals in legend. Above the clip of Sam on stage, Kieran wrote: “What an amazing night @samfendermusic. Can’t beat Newcastle crowd, Sunderland where are you? adding a crying laughing emoji at the end.

“Gan to The Cut on your crutches and I’ll take a cab back to town.

Thinking about Kieran’s injury, a third wrote: ‘Hope you don’t dance on that ankle, and another joked: ‘Tripp throwing disses left, right and far in the leagues. Another fan took to Twitter upon seeing Kieran at the concert, confessing, “Kieran Trippier just walked past me in Sam Fender bogs and I got stage fright.”

Defender Dan Burn’s unmistakable tall frame was also spotted in the middle of the crowd at Utilita Arena. After timing NUFC fan Dan ryan batey filmed it and captioned the video: “Big Dan Burn likes a bit of @samfendermusic tonight at the arena! Woaaaaah!”

Sam opened his set Tuesday night on Will We Talk, after sticking to tradition and arriving on stage for Local Hero as flags announced his welcome. Other songs in his set included the title track from the second album and his biggest hit to date, Seventeen Going Under, Dead Boys, the Saturday sing-along anthem and Spit of You.
