AN INDEPENDENT cafe has closed in the wake of Covid-19 and amid a rise in the cost of living.
The Exclusive Cake Shop and Vintage Tea Rooms in Chichester have announced the business will be put up for sale after they were unable to ‘recover sufficiently from the losses we suffered’ during the pandemic.
In an emotional statement posted on the store window, Two Sisters Trading Ltd, owner of the business, said: ‘It is with heavy hearts and after careful consideration and discussion that we have made the sad decision to close our shop. for table service. and daily take-out service.
“Unfortunately, the pandemic has seriously affected our ability to continue our operations and although we have done our best, we have not been able to recover sufficiently from the losses we have suffered.
“This, along with rising costs, was the nail in our proverbial coffin.”
The North Street Cafe will still be accepting bespoke cake and basket orders for delivery, as well as offering to refund or deliver orders that have been booked and paid for to date.
“We will offer the business for sale and hopefully find someone who can continue to serve you as you deserve,” the statement continued.
“Again, please accept our sincere and heartfelt apologies.
“We will certainly be missed by those of you who supported us through everything and became more like friends and family during our good times and our bad.”
The Exclusive Cake Shop and Vintage Tea Rooms offered a range of hand-made and decorated cupcakes and pastries, as well as a personalized service of wedding and celebration cakes.
