Sex offenders avoid punishment in South Yorkshire by apologizing…
Afzal was jailed for six sex offences, including rape, during a hearing at Leeds Crown Court yesterday.
The offenses were all committed in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, where Afzal was living at the time.
He was found guilty of rape, attempted rape and sexual assault on his victim between 2017 and 2019 after a trial.
One of the sexual assaults took place when the victim was a young teenager.
Afzal was arrested by officers from Kirklees Police’s Child Protection Team in 2019 after the offenses were first reported by the victim and her family.
DC Samantha Smith of Kirklees Child Protection Team said: ‘I want to commend the bravery of the victim in this case in coming forward and reporting the offense Afzal has given her.
“We welcome the sentence he has received, which reflects the very serious nature of his conviction and his refusal to admit his crimes against his victim and to subject him and his family to the test of a court case.
“Victims of sexual offenses will always be listened to and we will do everything we can with partners to support them, investigate reported offenses and seek justice for them.”
