The new 2022 DeLorean EV will be fully revealed on May 31 Car News

The highly anticipated all-electric DeLorean supercar will be fully unveiled at the end of the month, before making its public debut at Pebble Beach in August.

DeLorean Motor Company will unveil the model on Tuesday, May 31. The revived car will take a completely different design approach to the 1980s sports coupe from which it takes its name.

Called DeLorean EVolved, the model will be a very modern proposition, with what appear to be only subtle nods to its famous namesake.

It was originally confirmed for an August 18 reveal ahead of Pebble Beach’s debut three days later. Now interested drivers can sign up for the chance to view the car 24 hours before the general public.

The first detailed preview image was revealed earlier this year. It shows a clearly designed rear end with an emphasis on aerodynamic efficiency: the rear deck is tapered and houses louvers to direct airflow, the rear arches extend considerably to the side of the car and there appears to be an extendable rear spoiler housed above the futuristic taillight bar.

Beyond that, the DeLorean Motor Company hasn’t given more clues as to the design of its first model since securing the rights to the DeLorean brand in 1995, except for earlier confirming that it will have butterfly doors and V-shaped lighting. motif on the front. He has yet to officially confirm a name, which he will keep for the car’s final reveal.

Texas-based DeLorean Motor Company – formed by British engineer Stephen Wynne, who acquired the rights to the company’s original name and brand in 1995 – previously previewed its modern version of the Mid-Engine DeLorean DMC in a cryptic tweet confirming limited details.

The accompanying hashtags suggest it will have a greater emphasis on luxury than the 1981-82 original.

This isn’t the first time the revived brand has hinted at plans to bring the DMC back. Last year, 40 years to the day after the car’s launch, design house Italdesign showed a similar teaser image and more recently also previewed the car bound for Pebble Beach, confirming its involvement in the project.
