Blood moon 2022: how to see the total lunar eclipse in Brighton Brighton News

The moon will take on a red color when it aligns exactly with the earth and the sun during a total lunar eclipse.

During the eclipse, sunlight hitting the moon is first filtered through Earth’s atmosphere, blue light being scattered while red light passes through.

But the big question is: will the skies be clear enough in Brighton to see Blood Moon’s total lunar eclipse?

When is the 2022 blood moon?

According to Science Focus, the lunar eclipse will be visible from the UK on Monday, May 16. The event begins at 2:32 a.m., with the totality beginning at 4:29 a.m. and lasting nearly 85 minutes.

The BBC magazine recommends setting up to watch the eclipse after 3.30am – this is the start of the visual phase when, weather permitting, the Moon will begin to turn red.

How to see the Blood Moon in Brighton

As always, the best chance of seeing a full moon is on a clear night away from any light pollution.

Unfortunately the forecast for Brighton on Monday morning is cloudy with the chance of a few showers as well. Not the clear skies we were hoping for, but there’s always a chance you’ll spot a break in the clouds.
