Met Office weather: Somerset braces for thunderstorms as yellow warning issued Bath City News

A yellow weather warning has been issued for Somerset tonight (Sunday May 15) as mild temperatures are expected to bring with it a series of potential thunderstorms.

The warning, which runs from 5 p.m. Sunday evening to 5 a.m. Monday morning, covers much of the South West, including all of Somerset.

Forecasts indicate that the rain should arrive around mid-afternoon, with the heaviest showers around 4 p.m.

The Met Office forecast says it will be “mostly cloudy in the morning, but there will be more bright or sunny spells developing over the afternoon. The chance of a few heavy showers, but most places remain dry Feeling hot and humid Maximum temperature 24°C.

“There will be an increasing chance of heavy showers moving north during the evening. Often cloudy overnight, but the chance of a few heavy and possibly thundery showers persists. Mild and muggy. Minimum temperature 10°C. morning with some sunny spells, but also heavy scattered showers and potentially thunderstorms. An increasing risk of long sunny spells developing throughout the afternoon. Hot and humid. Maximum temperature 22°C.”

The yellow weather warning for thunder could mean:

There is a small chance that homes and businesses will soon be flooded, with damage to some buildings due to floodwater, lightning or hail. In the event of flooding or lightning, there is a risk of delays and cancellations of train and bus services. flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
