Lexus will offer a diverse model lineup as it goes electric Car News

The luxury brand Lexus does not plan to become an SUV specialist, despite its first two electric cars being SUVs and the success of the Lexus NX, and is considering a wide range of body styles for its future EVs.

European boss Spiros Fotinos said while he “cannot ignore SUV demand” globally, Lexus has not canceled plans for more traditional, lower-profile cars in its future lineup.

He pointed to the large EV SUV, sedan and supercar concept cars that Lexus revealed late last year as a statement of intent

“We are clearly working on alternative body types that would not only allow us to offer a wider range of vehicles, but also meet the growth ambitions we have for Europe,” he said.

As to whether that diversity could extend to an electric successor to the discontinued Lexus CT sedan, Fotinos would only say, “We’re not ruling anything out. The segments in which we compete and the segments that sell in volume in Europe are the segments we would primarily look at. »

Interestingly, Lexus isn’t just planning to use Toyota’s e-TNGA platform for its electric vehicles. Fotinos said it’s “a great place to start” but that “for a company and a brand that has the ambitions that we have – to be 100% BEV ready, to offer a BEV in every segment we’re in competition – technically it would be impossible to do with one platform, so obviously we are also looking for other opportunities”.
