Since 2008, Red Paddle Co has been designing and manufacturing high quality paddle boards, sold in over 50 countries.

Started by John Hibbard, Red Paddle Co is on a clear mission to challenge the status quo in the emerging sport of stand up paddleboarding (SUP). Previously, the vast majority of panels were made from fiberglass and foam resins. These “hard boards” were prone to damage, difficult to transport and store, and hindered the adoption of the sport. There were a few inflatable boards on the market which, although they solved the transport and storage problem, had poor performance on the water. They flexed badly and were prone to leaks. John is on a mission to change that. The team at Red Paddle Co believed that riding an inflatable board shouldn’t mean you had to compromise on performance or quality, so they set out to design and build boards that perform as well as their hard onboard cousins. On many occasions, progress has been hampered by the availability of quality components. So the team began a process of designing materials and parts from scratch to complete their mission.

Next comes the importance of creating a brand that can communicate its USPs and appeal to a global consumer. Within three years, Red Paddle Co boards were sold in 10 countries. This has expanded to over 50 countries and over 2000 independent retailers and activity providers across the globe. A strategy of continuous innovation has seen Red Paddle Co file a number of patents and develop state-of-the-art processes and materials. These have propelled inflatable technology to the forefront of the industry, to the point that inflatable boards are now the dominant technology, almost completely replacing the hardboard materials of 15 years ago.

In the summer of 2017, Red Paddle Co had a very engaged customer base who demanded more products from the brand they loved and trusted. In the spring of 2018, Red Original was born. Red Original has taken Red Paddle Co’s founding principles of never compromising on performance, looks and quality, and launched a range of active lifestyle accessories to meet the demands of its passionate customer base. Outstanding products such as changing robes, dry bags and SUP safety gear have propelled Red Original to become one of the leading suppliers of these products. Supplied by John Lewis and Ellis Brigham, the Red Original brand is going from strength to strength. The company is headquartered in South Devon, UK, close to some of the country’s best beaches and rivers – an ideal testing ground for its products. The head office is home to a team of 40 people working across design, logistics, sales, marketing and customer service, with other employees based in Europe and Australia overseeing the brand’s activities in these regions. There is a clear focus on ESG within the company. Earlier this year, Red Paddle Co completed its B-Corp application. It is focused on a continuous strategy of “taking action” to improve its global impact and is also working towards Net Zero status. A design-for-disassembly approach to product development aims to keep Red Paddle Co products in good working order for years to come by allowing customers to replace components as needed. Red Paddle Co was born out of a passion for water sports and high quality equipment and service. This passion runs through the company to this day, with all employees taking an active part in the culture and the future of the company. Red Paddle Co is poised to continue innovating its products and services in the years to come, inspiring adventures around the world.
