A sinkhole opens up in County Durham causing traffic disruption UK News

Another sinkhole has appeared in County Durham, making it the second this week.

The sinkhole was discovered on Station Road in Stanley on Friday evening, causing traffic disruption in the area. The roundabout remains partially closed and the A6076 Station Road is also closed at B6173 Barn Hill.

A second sinkhole, measuring 4ft wide, forced a road closure at Medomsley Bank in Consett after it was discovered on the A694 on Tuesday afternoon.

Durham County Council has confirmed that repairs to the sinkhole are due to start next week.

A Durham County Council spokesman said: “Following investigations into a sinkhole in Station Road, Stanley, we are required to partially close the roundabout where it has appeared since tonight (Friday May 20.)

“Please follow the short diversion if you are affected by this.

“Our highways team will begin repairs next week.
