A young man seriously ill in hospital after reporting a ‘fight’ outside a pub in the village of Corbridge UK News

A young man is believed to be seriously ill in hospital following a ‘fight’ outside a village pub in Northumberland.

An assault reportedly took place outside the Golden Lion pub in Corbridge just before 10.45am on Saturday evening. Police and paramedics rushed to the scene and an area outside the Hill Street premises was cordoned off by officers.

An injured man was taken to hospital by ambulance. A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) said: “We were called to report an injured man in Hill Street, Corbridge at 10.43pm last night. We dispatched an ambulance crew, specialist paramedic and a doctor, and transported a patient to hospital for further treatment.”

A number of villagers reported that a fight had occurred. The man is currently in intensive care.

One woman, who did not want to be named, said: “I heard there were quite a few police there this morning and I heard there was a fight. I heard someone is seriously ill in the hospital. It’s quite scary because we live in the marketplace. You don’t expect these things to happen where you live.

A man, who did not wish to be identified, said: ‘I heard there was a fight near the Golden Lion and there was a terrible fight.

A woman, who lives near the pub, said: “I took the dogs out at around 11.30am and heard an ambulance. Usually the crowd leaves and shouts but I didn’t hear anything like I usually do it at night. It’s a beautiful area, it’s really cool. It’s strange that something happened but I hope everything is fine. I feel bad for anyone.

Another local woman said an assault happened outside the Golden Lion pub. She added: “The outside (of the pub) was cordoned off this morning by the police. I don’t know when it was taken down, but the pub is open now.”

The Golden Lion would not comment on the incident. Chronicle Live has contacted Northumbria Police for further information.
