Family pay tribute to man who died after his van collided with a wall in County Durham UK News

The heartbroken family of a motorist who died in a crash in County Durham have paid their respects.

Anthony Staplin was the driver of a Mercedes Citan, which collided with a wall in Medomsley Road, Consett, on Thursday evening. Sadly, the 44-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement, his family said: “Anthony, known as Tony, was a loving father, son, brother and uncle.

“He was a huge Sunderland Football Club fan and watched every game.

“Tony loved walking his dog, eating and watching ‘Friday’ movies.

“He was incredibly caring of others and always went out of his way to help anyone, no matter what they were doing.

“He was outgoing with a constant smile on his face and was always the life and soul of the party.

“He will forever be in our memories and leave a blank space in our lives.

“He will be missed more and more for each day he is gone.”

Anthony leaves behind his three children – Lewis, 20, Jay, 18 and Leoni, 17, his five siblings, his father and many other much loved relatives and friends. Anthony’s family have asked for privacy as she grieves and comes to terms with what happened.

The road was closed for several hours after the incident to allow investigators to work on the scene. The Mercedes passenger was slightly injured.
