Peter Kay is reportedly set to reveal plans for a major stage comeback with a comeback arena tour.
It’s been five years since the 48-year-old comic disappeared from the limelight for personal reasons, but it looks like the Phoenix Nights and Car Share star could be planning a return.
In 2017, Peter canceled a number of work projects and announced he would be stepping down from the public eye in a series of tweets ahead of a sold-out stand-up tour.
He said: “Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret having to cancel all my upcoming work plans.
“This unfortunately includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance for Life shows and all outstanding live work engagements.
“My sincere apologies. This decision was not taken lightly and I’m sure you’ll understand that my family must always come first.”
Peter Kay set to announce UK tour in 2023
But according to The Sun, the comic genius is set to announce plans for a 2023 comeback tour later this year.
It would be her first UK tour in over 10 years, with Kay apparently having “lined up huge venues across the country”.
A source said: “He has lined up huge venues across the country including Manchester, London and Birmingham and hopes to announce this in September.
“Peter hasn’t performed live stand-up on a big stage in over a decade now, but he couldn’t be more ready to get back out there.”
It comes after fellow comedian Jason Manford hinted that Peter Kay could be set to return when he told fans to “keep an eye out”.
Speaking on Dublin radio station FM104’s Strawberry Alarm Clock, Jason said: “He’s brilliant, Pete. We’ve known each other for a long time, it must have been 25 years. It’s been one hell of a journey.
“He’s just an absolute legend, isn’t he? What a treasure. Hope he comes back soon, doing stand-up, so keep an eye on his tour. Not that he needs that you buy a ticket as much as I do.”
