A racial reading group was promoted to begin a library diversity audit and a “Collections Diversity Advisory Group”. The Daily Telegraph reported that the plans emerged during an online ‘decolonisation’ conference organized by the House of Commons for around 75 librarians and the public on May 25. Martin Reid, Director of the Library, told participants: “As the information experts in the House of Commons responsible for putting information and analysis at the heart of our parliamentary democracy, we are particularly keen to address the issue from decolonization to the library
“This has been on Parliament’s mind for some time now.”
Referring to the plans, Nile Gardiner, who was a foreign policy researcher for the Iron Lady from 2000 to 2002, said: “Absolutely ridiculous.
“This anti-British Marxist madness must stop.
“A Race Reading Group Inspired by BLM’s Plans to ‘Decolonize’ the Commons Library.”
The proposal was condemned by some MPs as “woke nonsense” akin to “burnt books”.
The lecture included methods on how to diversify libraries.
However, one conference participant claimed that the word “decolonize” is “too bland.”
The person thought it should be replaced with “anti-colonization” or “anti-imperialism”.
One of the four speakers, a librarian from the University of the West of England at Bristol, said “white privilege” is the “result” of colonization.
The speaker defined the term decolonize using a dance analogy: “Diversity is asked at the party, inclusion is invited to dance, the remaining colonial thinking is about who chooses the guests and what music to play.”

Next, an “Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Statement” was added to the collection.
Along with this, a statement of impartiality and a policy for dealing with “controversial or potentially offensive material” were also added.
However, Sir John Hayes, Conservative MP and former Minister, said: “The absurdity of decolonizing the canon of English literature seems at first sight simply nonsense, but, on closer reflection, it is the sinister ambition of subversive activists, driven by guilt and resentment. ”
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Sir John added: ‘The last thing we need to see at the moment is more woke nonsense. If they had their way, the ideologues who defend these theories would also burn books.
“We can always learn from the past, but we shouldn’t make excuses based on the moral standards of the time, because in the years to come, this generation will undoubtedly be judged as well. This is simply source divisive and counterproductive, as we’ve seen with groups such as BLM.
