Sheffield Wednesday academy chief Steve Haslam.

“Last season he was a young freshman, he just turned 17 and established himself in the 18 and scored goals, and dipped his toe in the 23 and training for the first team.

“We’re always keen to step up the players and get them into the ages if we can, so he had played under-18 football before as an under-16, and as the season progressed, we involved him with the 23 where he showed that he was capable of surpassing himself.

“It’s an effort by the club now to develop it as best we can, and down to Bailey as well, he’s a very professional and dedicated person.

“It’s a long journey, he’s been with us for a long time and we’re delighted he’s committed his future to the club.”
