The fire broke out at Smurfit Kappa as thousands of tons of cardboard and paper caught fire. The West Midlands Fire Service tweeted: “Pull 20 up at Smurfit Kappa 1000 tonnes of cardboard and paper on fire, crews are working extremely hard.”
Video footage showed smoke billowing from the West Midlands as the flames continued.
Smurfit Kappa is a board and paper recycling plant located on Duddeston Mill Road, Saltley.
It is not yet known how the fire started.
