For a road car, the new Ginetta promises phenomenal aerodynamic performance. The company spent many hours in the Williams wind tunnel developing aerodynamics whose efficiency is clearly paramount in a bristling styling of planes, ducts and airfoils, as well as a high rear deck dominated by a huge wing ( with the same airfoil shape as the Ginetta LMP1 car) and an underbody diffuser that would do justice to many pure racers. A pair of pro-style slant-cut exhausts prevent piping from interrupting underbody airflow.
The same goes for downforce, which equates to an extraordinary 376kg at 100mph, well ahead of cars in the LaFerrari and McLaren P1 range, and less than 5% of Ginetta’s own current LMP3 car.
Tomlinson wants none of this talk of lightness and extreme aerodynamics to obscure the fact that this is a very practical road car. The “sensitive” doors are sized for easy entry and exit, and he is passionate about their panel fit. The trunk can hold 675 liters of luggage, all sight lines are designed for easy visibility in traffic and the car will come with details such as automatic headlights, rear view camera, electronic parking brake, sensors parking, a satellite navigation system, ABS and traction. control, air conditioning, heated screens and full connectivity. Door handles and interior hardware will be milled from machined aluminum. Ginetta’s comprehensive warranty means the company will support the cars for their first two years “virtually anywhere in the world”.
Owners will be able to configure their cars in almost any color and trim combination and every owner will get a racing-style car fitment: the seats are molded into the tub for lightness, so the steering column and pedals move to adapt to individual drivers, with seat shapes that can be modified by bespoke inserts or padding. Tomlinson wants Ginetta ownership to be a very personal experience and believes the number of cars made will be important to its exclusivity. He is serious about getting to know the owners as individuals.
