Inquiry into murder after mother and daughter were stabbed in Osidge, Barnet UK News

A five-year-old girl and her 37-year-old mother were stabbed to death.

Police say a 37-year-old man suspected of murder was arrested after the bodies were found at an address in Brookside South, Osidge, Barnet at lunchtime today (June 21).

Officers were called by paramedics just after 1.30pm and an air ambulance was also dispatched to the scene.

The girl and her mother were pronounced dead at the scene. They have not been named yet.

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that a man has been arrested in connection with the deaths and is currently in police custody. The force added that the suspect and the victims knew each other.

Chief Superintendent Sara Leach, Commander of North West London Police, said: “The whole community will be shocked and saddened to hear of this terrible incident.

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the woman and child who died, and to the officers and paramedics who were the first to arrive at an incredibly difficult scene.

“Specialized detectives are working to establish what happened and a man is in custody.

“While they keep an open mind as to what happened, I want to reassure people in the area that there is no indication at this stage that anyone else has been involved in this incident.”

She added: “I urge anyone who saw or heard anything unusual earlier today, or in the past few days, to come forward and speak to the police.

“Your information could be vital as the investigation progresses.”
