Burke spent last season on loan at The Den as Rowett’s men made a late push for the play-offs, and Rowett revealed earlier this week he was interested in bringing the Scotland international back to the capital on a permanent basis.
Burke has joined his United team-mates for pre-season training, with Heckingbottom admitting that, with United suffering a attacking injury crisis, Burke would have played more football for the Blades had he stayed at Bramall Lane for the rest of the last campaign.
“I’ve spoken to Gary and Burkey about it but he’s our player,” Heckingbottom said today.
“Unless it makes sense, there’s no point. I’m relaxed. There is interest but no supply.
“It was good for Burkey to go play games,” he added. “But he would have had more playing time if he had stuck with the way it went.”
