Amy and Reece Parkinson, from Aspull in Wigan, landed in the UK after a holiday when they discovered their dog had been hit by a train. The pup, Reggie, was rushed to an emergency vet in Leigh on June 18.
The dog was staying with Ms Parkinson’s father while the couple were on holiday in Spain.
He had managed to escape from the garden and onto the railway line nearly two miles behind his home in Hart Common, Wesoughton.
Reggie had cut off his tail, suffered dozens of lacerations to his head and body, and various fractures and dislocations to his limbs.
A Network Rail worker discovered him near Hindley station and helped rescue Reggie from the side of the tracks
However, despite being about to be put down, the dog made a “miracle” recovery at the vet.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Ms Parkinson said: ‘There were questions we had to answer about whether we should put him down because we didn’t want to cause him unnecessary pain.
“We went to the vet the next morning where he was in a little cart. The vet prepared us before entering the room.
“When he heard Reece’s voice, he started to get up from his wagon and was crying for him.
“The vet said he couldn’t believe he was stable and it was a miracle.
“They thought the train must have hit him right on the left side. Miraculously, he has no spinal damage and no damage to his organs.

Reggie was born with a very rare neurological condition called Mega Esophagus, which meant he couldn’t be insured.
This condition also meant that he had to eat his food in an upright position, which required the assistance of a special chair.
The family have already paid over £4,000 for the operation to amputate his leg and there are more costs on the way.
As of this writing, Ms Parkinson has raised £5,610 of a £10,000 target in just five days.
