Music fans have come to the defense of Diana Ross after the legendary singer was slammed online for her performance at Glastonbury.
Following in the footsteps of other icons like Kylie Minogue, Lionel Richie and Dolly Parton, ex-Supremes star Diana filled the Legends spot on the Pyramid Stage on Sunday afternoon, following her recent appearance at the Party at the Palace and a few days before she performed at the Durham Riverside ground in Chester-le-Street.
Diana, 78, kicked off with I’m Coming Out, with her Glastonbury set also featuring Supremes classics like Baby Love, Stop in the Name of Love and You Can’t Hurry Love as well as several of his solo anthems, including Chain Reaction, I’m Always Waiting, Upside Down and Ain’t No Mountain High Enough. Those watching Diana in action live on the BBC could see the crowd cheering for her performance, although there was a slightly awkward moment when she asked them to sing I’m Still Waiting and many of them didn’t know not the lyrics.

Accused of miming during the Queen’s Jubilee concert, some viewers criticized Diana’s live vocals, with one taking to Twitter to post: “Oh my god Diana Ross is doing some notes n ‘is this not ?” Another tweeted: “Diana Ross should have wrapped it years ago. Her voice is long gone”, and a third reacted: “Her voice is not just completely out of tune. Embarrassingly bad.”
However, for everyone who criticized Diana, many more spoke in her favour, with one fan replying: “How anyone can hate Diana Ross is beyond me. She’s 78 and the embodiment of a LEGEND more than worthy of his place #Glastonburyand another, defending her by writing, “Diana Ross’ enemies at Glastonbury… SHUT UP!! She had me in the palm of her hand at the O2 Thursday night! She is a fucking LEGEND!! And she still sings the f**king tunes!! And will always do!!! QUEEN!!!!!!”
Another commented: “For people/viewers who don’t understand music. Voice fades with age. A struggle to reach the high notes. It’s remarkable that Paul McCartney and Diana Ross continue to play. “
