A horse trailer overturns on the A23 near Hickstead Brighton News

There is heavy traffic on the A23 after a horse trailer overturned this afternoon.

The incident happened around 5pm where the junction of the A2300 meets the A23 at Hickstead.

The Argus understands that two horses could have been in the box at the time of the incident.

But a witness saw two horses that “appeared fine” being driven away after the crash.

Meanwhile the road was closed while emergency services were present and there were three miles of queues.

National Motorways says the delays, which traced back to Hurstpierpoint, were around 30 minutes.

The delays are now diminishing.

All lanes are now reopened.

Sussex Police have been approached for comment.
