Chris Eubank Snr backs ‘warrior’ nephew in upcoming Brighton fight Brighton News

The Brighton boy faces Germany’s Timo Schwarzkopf in the city’s first Eubank bout in more than 30 years.

It was in 1991 that Chris Eubank Snr stopped Dan Sherry in the tenth round, and Harlem is confident of similar success his uncle showed that night.

“I feel good, I feel ready to put on a strong performance. The talking is done,” said Harlem, speaking to a packed press conference on Wednesday afternoon (November 8).

“It’s going to be massive. It’s the homecoming I’ve waited for, for a long time. I can bring boxing back home for my city.

“We know what Timo brings and that’s the type of challenge that I want, and that I’ve earnt.

“This is my biggest test yet.”

Eubank Snr, royalty of the sport, said he is excited to see what his nephew has to offer in the ring.

“I’m fascinated with his ability to box, his ability is sensational,” he said.

“He reminds me of Sugar Leonard. He’s sweet, he’s a sweet boxer but if you back him up into the corner then you are in trouble.”

Leonard won an Olympic gold medal in 1976 and went on to claim world titles in five different weight divisions.

“The bar has been set too low. This is the new bar. Harlem will nullify everything that Timo will do,” said Eubank Snr.

“He will put the heavyweights to shame. His footwork, his craft. He has learnt and he is ready.

“He will show the world what he has learnt over the last 11 years, and I am excited for him to show me that he can do it properly.

“I wouldn’t back something that isn’t real. I back people who are warriors.”

Tickets for the event on November 10 have been selling fast with around 20 remaining on Wednesday, but the support of a fierce home crowd will do little to worry Schwarzkopf.

“I learnt from watching Chris Eubank Snr, I am the same warrior like him and I will test everything in Harlem’s body and his mind,” said Schwarzkopf.

“I’m very excited. I am 14 years professional. This is a good fight but I have come here to win, not to make a show.”

The fight will be shown live on Channel 5.
