The new Audi RS4 and RS5 Competition 2022 gain in handling Car News

The Audi RS4 Avant and Audi RS5 have been dialed in to deliver improved dynamics and a louder soundtrack in a new limited edition Competition version.

The new hardcore variants of the sports estate and its coupé sibling will arrive in German dealerships in July, but Autocar understands Audi is still weighing whether or not to bring the newcomers to the UK.

The upgrades bring unique styling touches to each and a set of mechanical upgrades, with the costlier Competition Plus pack being the most heavily differentiated from the standard cars.

The competition cars are marked by black badging, matte carbon-effect exterior trim and optional black wheels in a bespoke design, which can be wrapped in sticky Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres.

The interior is also adorned with black trim elements.

It’s the chassis modifications that most obviously set the Competition apart.

The ride height is lowered by 10mm compared to standard and can be lowered manually by a further 10mm. Spring rates were increased, stabilizers reinforced and three-way adjustable dampers fitted to “enhance the overall driving experience and help shorten lap times”.

Audi says an upgraded differential further improves handling performance, thanks to a modification to the power unit that sends more power rearward through corners.

Power from the cars 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 remains at 444bhp, but straight-line pace has been subtly improved as the gearbox has been tuned for quicker gear changes.

The RS5 Competition sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds – an improvement of 0.1 seconds – while the RS4 Avant Competition cuts its sprint time by 0.2 seconds, to 3.9 seconds.

Rounding out the package is a bespoke RS sports exhaust with matt black tailpipes, which is less isolated from the cabin and thus “provides a ‘more intense sound pattern’.

A by-product of this is a small weight loss of 8 kg.

Lamborghini confirms its entry into the LMDh for 2024 Car News

The company’s Head of Motorsport, Giorgio Sanna, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Lamborghini is taking the next step in our motorsport journey, the step towards LMDh and the highest level of sports car racing.

“LMDh will play a special role in Lamborghini’s motorsports strategy, giving us the unique opportunity to expand our customer racing activities to new platforms and strengthen our long-term partnership with customer teams and drivers. “

Sanna’s words suggest Lamborghini will not be directly responsible for racing cars, with the company likely continuing its current strategy of supporting customer teams by loaning out factory drivers.

Radical 1400bhp Porsche restomod to take on Pikes Peak Car News

American racer Ken Block has introduced the Hoonipigasus, an extravagant 1,400 horsepower Porsche-based creation that he will race at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb in June.

It started out in life as a four-cylinder Porsche 912 (a 1960s budget version of the Porsche 911) but was radically modified for the event by Block’s Hoonigan Racing team and Porsche specialist BBi Autosport, who scored several class victories at the event. over the years.

Almost a decade in the making, the car has been completely redesigned, with a huge splitter and a chunky rear wing that help it stay glued to the road. The rear wheels have been moved outboard and rearward to improve handling, while the lack of a rear bumper shows off the inner workings.

The Hoonipigasus was fitted with a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter flat-six producing around 1380 hp. Despite this new engine and a four-wheel drive powertrain, the car weighs only 1000 kg.

The transmission tunnel extends from shoulder height to the front axle to lower the center of gravity, while the car rides on a height-adjustable GPS suspension, which raises and lowers the car to suit specific parts of the climb.

The bright pink livery – designed by street artist Trouble Andrew – pays homage to the Porsche 917/20, a research car that raced in the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans with a famous livery representing butcher parts running on the bodywork, which earned it the nickname Pink Pig.

Pikes Peak is a personal conquest for Block, who contested the event in his first year of racing in 2005.

“The Pikes Peak Hill Climb is one of the main reasons I’m a rally driver,” Block said. “The list of riders who have raced and won this hill climb includes several of my heroes: Walter Röhrl, Ari Vatanen, Michèle Mouton, Sébastien Loeb and Rod Millen to name but a few.

“I’ve always wanted the chance to race Pikes Peak at the highest level and compete for an overall win – and with our team and BBi Autosport creating this incredible Porsche, we have a good chance.”

Block has taken his Ford Mustang Hoonicorn to Pikes Peak before as part of his Climbkhana video, but this will be the first time he’s aiming for overall victory.

Bangernomics Best Buys: Ford Kuga Car News

1 ford kuga

The Ford Kuga is a capable off-roader in four-wheel-drive form

This family crossover is a wise choice with an attractive price

It’s an impressive little thing – actually a Ford Focus for all eventualities – that was sold new from 2008 to 2012.

It’s not really a true mud plug, but it’s well suited to the demands of most semi-professional buyers. Its “intelligent” all-wheel-drive system is the kind that kicks in when the driver needs it, distributing power between the front and rear wheels. However, there is also a cheaper and 40kg lighter two-wheel-drive option, which is all most people will need.

It’s a pretty straightforward model, especially when powered by the 2.0-litre TDCi diesel and in Zetec (alloys, climate control and keyless start) or titanium (automatic lights and wipers, and steering controls) trim. cruising and air conditioning).

Being a Ford, there’s also Titanium X (leather, panoramic sunroof, heated front seats and power-adjustable driver’s seat). To make matters even more interesting, a 197bhp 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine makes a tall and hot Kuga hatchback a reality, although the penalty is 28mpg. Kugas are still good to ride.

Upgrades arrived in 2010, including a new 2.0-liter TDCi diesel with 138 hp (which delivered a useful 47 mpg) or a more powerful 161 hp.

It’s a compact car on the outside and inside the rear seats are tight but they have a 60/40 split and can fold completely flat to give you 1355 liters of space, with storage under the seat under the second row and additional storage under the trunk. In its standard configuration, the trunk is 360 liters.

Because it’s based on the generally very reliable Focus, there’s not too much to worry about. However, a little used diesel, which is almost all used diesel, will clog the particle filter and it is a little expensive to sort out. There may be minor electrical issues and low level construction issues that leave water in the cabin. Otherwise, it’s the best SUV used in the real world.

The ones we found

2012 Ford Kuga 2.0 TDCi Titanium, 92,000 miles, £6,595: The perfect on-roader, with 2WD, full titanium trim and 47 mpg TDCi. Three previous guardians, long CT and fair condition. It is also sold with a dealer warranty.

2011 Ford Kuga 2.5T Titanium, 82,000 miles, £6,995: It looks the part and has the engine to match as well as funky 19 inch alloy wheels. It has had three previous owners and comes with an exciting manual gearbox.

Or try this

2009 BMW X3 2.0d M Sport, 88,000 miles, £5,450: A prestige pocket SUV has to be an X3 and the everyday diesel. This one has a full service history and extra specs including Bluetooth and sleeker alloy wheels.

idol fantasy

Fiat Barchetta, 1995-2005

It’s that time of year when a true car lover’s thoughts should turn to ruffling their hair follicles. As in a Fiat Barchetta, a left-hand-drive character convertible, although there are aftermarket right-hand prostitutes. It’s front-wheel drive, which puts off some purists, but they’re morons. These cars are still affordable, especially in the £3000-£5000 range, and a less common 1.8 than a Mazda MX-5 or MGF.

The manual hood is easy to use and stores under a metal tonneau cover (which can leak). A slight redesign in 2003 ushered in a new front end, fog lamps and a leather steering wheel.

Check to see if any potential purchase is a gray (personal) import or a proper UK Fiat car as specs varied. Power steering, five-speed gearbox and ABS brakes were all standard. A comfort pack added leather, power mirrors and a passenger airbag. There were also several special editions.

Buy now

Peugeot 206, 1998-2009: Fun to drive and best enjoyed with missing wheel trim, this little hatch was never the best built, but it packs a lot of character. It sounds cheap, but that’s part of the appeal of this old-school supermini, which is relatively simple and easy to live with.

The best engines are gasoline 1.1 and 1.4. Then there’s the really old-school 1.9 D, which is easier to maintain than an HDi and delivers 65 mpg. Base-style trim is fine unless you want the luxury of a GLX or SE instead.

There is only an average amount of room inside and you should drive before buying as it can be oddly uncomfortable for the kingpin. The motors are quite powerful and overall they are cheap. But watch out for worn lower ball joints, broken engine mounts, sunroofs and, on cars, ECU problems.

One we found

2001 Peugeot 206 1.4, 112,000 miles, £1,150: With a deliciously old-fashioned description of a “female owner,” this is the kind of old-school supermini timer you should consider. It is in immaculate condition and looks perfectly clean in the dealer photos. For a 21-year-old city girl, that’s quite remarkable and a godsend. Buy now.

Test of the Volkswagen Multivan (2022) | Coach Car News

What does it look like?

Opting for a van-shaped MPV as the weapon of choice for seven-seater family transport over a more overtly prestigious SUV – in the form of the Volvo XC90, Land Rover Discovery or Audi Q7 – is undoubtedly a choice motivated by a preference. for modularity, flexibility and practicality above all. And while these school stalwarts claim early wins in the appeal, performance and all-terrain stakes, the Multivan’s suitability for purpose is truly a force to be reckoned with.

Rails along the full length of the cavernous rear cabin allow it to be reconfigured at will, with the ability to remove, rotate or rearrange all five (or possibly four) seats, and slide the center console rearward and fold it up to form a work-cum-dining area. Whichever direction they end up in, every Multivan passenger is comfortably accommodated with a luxuriously padded seat and plenty of legroom and headroom.

It’s also good news for the driver, because the quite expected but still remarkable result of switching to smoother car-derived mechanics is that this, a 2850kg family bus with a 3124mm wheelbase, drives pretty emphatically as a car, and it couldn’t be further from the low praise here.

There’s absolutely minimal mental adjustment required to get behind the wheel, except to get to grips with the unmistakably pickup truck-like upright-back seating position and forward-looking proportions of the cabin. The driving position is commanding and all-round visibility means you can see the furthest parts of the body and confidently judge overtaking and parking maneuvers. The seats are comfortable, the suspension is well-tuned to smooth out swerves and body roll in corners (push it and it’ll rock a bit, obviously), and the steering is quick and smooth, though firmly on the lighter, unresponsive side. , which we’ll forgive.

Diesel prices hit new high of 180.29 pence a liter Car News

Diesel prices hit a record high of 180.29 pence per litre, according to data firm Experian Catalist.

The new record is up from 179.9p recorded on Spring Government Declaration Day on March 22, when Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced a cut in fuel duty of 5p per liter for a year.

Petrol prices, meanwhile, have risen 3p per liter since early May to 166.65p, slightly below 167.3p March 22 number.

Prices initially hit record highs due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The RAC said prices were rising again due to increased efforts to stop oil and fuel imports from Russiawhich compresses supply.

“Unfortunately, despite the Chancellor’s 5p per liter tariff reduction, the average price of a liter of diesel has hit a new record high of 180.29p, says RAC Fuel spokesman Simon Williams. Efforts to move away from importing Russian diesel have led to tighter supply and pushed up the price retailers pay for diesel.

If the EU banned imports of Russian oil completely.

“Although the wholesale price has fallen in recent days, this is likely to be temporary, especially if the EU agrees to ban imports of Russian oil,” said Williams.

“Unfortunately, drivers of diesel vehicles have to be prepared for even more pain at the pump. If Mr Sunak had reduced VAT to 15%, as we asked him to do instead of reducing duty by 5p, drivers of diesel vehicles would be better off by around 2 pence per litre, or £1 for each full tank.

“As it stands, drivers are still paying 27p VAT on petrol and 29p on diesel, which is exactly the same as before the spring declaration.”

New Maserati MC20 Cielo: the convertible supercar arrives on May 25 Car News

Maserati is preparing to unveil a convertible version of its flagship MC20 sports car next week and has confirmed it will be called Cielo.

Set to make its debut next Wednesday (May 25), the new open-top supercar takes its name from the Italian for sky, which Maserati says “underlines the fact that this is a model dedicated to the pleasure of drive outdoors.

Late last year, the first completed prototype starred in an official photo shoot before road testing began.

He wore a bold new cloud-style livery. “After all,” Maserati said, “it’s a convertible.” It will be Maserati’s first convertible since the withdrawal of the GranCabrio in 2020, and the first mid-engined roadster since the MC12 supercar ended production in 2005.

There are no photos of the rear, but the silhouette of this prototype suggests it will feature a folding hardtop, rather than a fabric item – similar to its Ferrari F8 Spider rival.

Otherwise, it is expected to be technically and stylistically identical to the coupe. That means it’ll draw its power from a 621bhp mid-twin V6 that spins at 7500rpm and gets it from 0-62mph in around 3.0 seconds. The convertible is expected to nearly match the coupe’s 203 mph top speed.

A folding hardtop will likely increase the curb weight of the MC20 slightly. For reference, the similarly designed Ferrari F8 Spider weighs 70kg more than its coupe sibling.

As for pricing, expect the convertible to command a slight premium over the coupe, which costs £187,230.

BTCC 2022: Cook doubles but Turkington counters Car News

After BMW dominated qualifying, taking the top four, with Colin Turkington leading, it looked like it would be a weekend for the 330th rear-drive teams.

But Josh Cook had other ideas, picking up a double streak of wins at Brands Hatch that left the Honda Civic Type R driver second in the championship, eight points behind leader Tom Ingram.

Cook masters the conditions

Rainy conditions on Sunday always threatened to shake things up a bit and it did, as the rain tires on the BMWs faded as the race progressed.

Turkington and Jake Hill led from the start, pulling a slight gap with the fighting peloton behind as Cook got involved in a dice with Stephen Jelly.

But the gap for the top two was never enough as their tires started to fade, and that allowed the Honda rider to move them up from third to first in 10 laps.

Bake the double premier of the 2022 season

Rich Energy BTC Racing’s Cook held off sustained pressure from Dan Cammish’s Ford Focus ST to take his second win of the weekend, taking a lights-to-flag win.

BTCC’s new hybrid rules came into play, as Cook had to manage his energy levels in case Cammish mounted a late-race push.

” I’m tired. It was hard work! said Cook. “For us it’s all about points, we have to keep scoring big points. Last year we lost the championship because of a few bad weekends, so we have to make hay while the sun is shining. shines and simply grab as many points as possible.
