Duchess of Sussex to produce new Netflix program Brighton News

THE DUCHESS of Sussex will produce a new animated program for Netflix.

Archewell Production’s, Meghan Markle’s production company, has announced the series, titled Pearl, which will feature the adventures of a 12-year-old girl inspired by influential women in history.

Pearl is the second show in the Netflix deal that Meghan Markle and The Duke of Sussex signed last year after Heart Of Invictus – a series about the Invictus Games.

Ms Markle said: “Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges.

“I am delighted that Archewell Productions, in partnership with the powerful platform Netflix, and these amazing producers, brings to you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history.”

Filmmaker David Furnish, husband of Sir Elton John, is also expected to work on the program.

Ms Markle said: “David Furnish and I have been eager to shine the spotlight on this special series, and I am delighted that we can announce it.”

Meghan and Harry signed a major deal with Netflix last year to make movies and TV series for the online streaming service.

At the time, Netflix said the couple would create “content that informs but also gives hope.”

Archewell Production replaced Harry and Meghan’s Sussex Royal brand after stepping down from royal duties.

The name was inspired by their son Archie – combining “ark”, the Greek word meaning source of action, and “good” as “a source or abundant supply; a place where we will dig deep ”.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey was also nominated for an Emmy Award.

Oprah With Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special is up for an Outstanding or Special Hosted Non-Fiction Series at the awards show, which recognizes excellence in American television.

The 73rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on September 19.
