Buy ’em before us: used picks from July 16 Car News

Aston Martin DBS Vantage: Aston Martin has always been synonymous with stylish and luxurious grand touring cars, and this 1969 DBS Vantage is one of the best interpretations of the formula. Billed as the successor to the DB6, the DBS was the catalyst for the brand’s visual reinvention under William Towns. Only 300 examples were built to Vantage specifications and only 317 examples of the right-hand drive DBS were fitted with a ZF manual gearbox. One was this car, which received a £ 20,000 overhaul in 2015, receiving new brakes, suspension, steering and ignition, while the interior has been kept as original as possible. It sold for £ 110,000.

Future classic

TVR Tuscany, £ 44,995: A tribute to the car of the same name from 1967, Tuscany came in 1999 to a one-year media driving ban from TVR owner Peter Wheeler. Its wild design was enough to generate excitement, even before we were allowed to get behind the wheel and experience its custom-built 4.0-liter, 360-hp straight-six. This example was the first Tuscan S to come out of the line, meaning it has 390 hp and improved aerodynamics. It also has a story outside of its production issue, having appeared no less than three times on the cover of this magazine.

The shock of classifieds
