Kia has withdrawn the plug-in hybrid variant of the Ceed Sportswagon from sale as part of a larger model lineup update detailed last week.
The Korean automaker will continue to offer the UK a plug-in model of the Xceed, its small crossover SUV, which a company spokesperson said was so far twice as popular as the outgoing Sportswagon in 2021.
The wider Ceed model lineup will not be affected, and the Sportswagon model will remain on sale with 1.0-liter and 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engines as well as a 1.6-liter mild hybrid diesel option.
The Ceed family maintains its position as the company’s most popular lineup despite short-lived sales of the Sportswagen PHEV, and all other models in the Kia lineup also retain their plug-in hybrid variants.
The Ceed Sportswagon first went on sale in the UK in 2017, but the plug-in hybrid variant wasn’t added to the lineup until 2020. It used the same powertrain as the Niro PHEV, driven by a 1.6-liter gasoline engine mated to a 79 hp electric motor to drive the front wheels.
An 8.9 kWh lithium-ion battery provided the electric power for the car and offered up to 35 miles of electric range alone with an overall economy figure of 188.3 mpg cited by Kia.
