Somerset’s Covid hotspots as rates climb in one area Bath City News

As coronavirus cases decline in Somerset, infection rates are still high in some areas.

The highest was Keynsham, which has an infection rate of 507.5 per 100,000 people, as 32 cases were reported in the seven-day period to August 2.

Bath’s rate remains high at 451.1, as 27 cases were confirmed in the same period.

Womscombe, Langford and Blagdon’s rate stands at 414.5 after 35 infections were recorded.

And Mindsomer Norton North also has a high rate of 416.8 after 26 cases were confirmed

Somerset has recorded 347 new cases of the coronavirus, according to figures released yesterday (Saturday August 7), up from 416 on Friday August 7.

The number of positive test results in each area since the start of the pandemic are recorded below, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 56,668 since the start of the pandemic.

Bath and Northeast Somerset: 13,462

Mendip: 5,211

North Somerset: 15,060

Sedge moor: 7,208

Somerset West and Taunton: 7,861

Somerset South: 7,866

Nationally, the government said an additional 103 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 on Saturday, August 7, bringing the UK total to 130,281.

Separate figures released by the Office for National Statistics show that there have been 155,000 registered deaths in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

At 9 a.m. on Saturday, there had been 28,612 more laboratory-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the government said.

Government data through Friday August 6 shows that of the 86,207,851 Covid injections administered in the UK, 46,997,495 were first doses, an increase of 35,665 the day before.

Some 39,210,356 were second doses, an increase of 162,827.
