The body was found between the A34 and A40 in Oxfordshire. Thames Valley Police were called to the scene in Yarnton. The woman’s death is considered unexplained after the body was removed from the water.
Detective Inspector Tracey Benham said: “Tragically, we have located a woman’s body in the water and are currently working to identify it and notify the next of kin.
“There will be an increased police presence in the area over the next few days as we investigate, but I urge the public not to speculate on the circumstances.
“We know that a woman who was in the area for the past two weeks knocked on the door, and I would ask anyone who thinks they have seen a woman matching the description given to please contact us by calling 101 or report online.
