The duo, who train at the Northern Snooker Center in Leeds, must put their friendship aside as they embark on a grueling 10 days of qualifiers to reach the Crucible.
In the red corner is former senior world champion Lines, 52, who played in the Crucible before, way back in 1998, whose son Oliver will join the qualifiers in the second round on Friday at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. . In the blue corner is Lam, 28, who has been in fine form this season, reaching the third round of the recent Gibraltar Open, as he looks to make his first appearance in the Crucible.
The winner will face China’s Cao Yupeng in the second round.
Only 16 of the 128 players will make it out of the qualifiers to secure a coveted spot in the Crucible, with the tournament kicking off on Saturday, April 16. Other Yorkshire players in action at the EIS, see York’s Ashley Hugill take on the winner of Ben Hancorn and Dean Young in the second round on Thursday afternoon.
Also in the second round, Leeds duo Oliver Lines and David Grace enter the competition. Lines, 26, plays the winner of Peter Devlin and Yorrit Hoes on Friday night. Grace awaits the result of the match between Iulian Boiko and Michael Georgiou. before its Friday afternoon opening. Rotherham’s Ashley Carty’s second round match will see him play either Jackson Page or Sean O’Sullivan on Friday afternoon.
