A gang smashed a glass door with a pitchfork to break into a shop in the village of Sheffield in the early hours of the morning, police say. A file photo shows police cars

South Yorkshire Police said in a statement today: “It is reported that a vehicle, believed to be gray in colour, approached the building.

“Four people got out and used a pitchfork to smash a window pane on the door before getting in. A crate was taken, before the car drove off onto Worrall Road.

Investigations are currently underway, say the officers currently investigating the matter.

This afternoon, they launched an appeal for witnesses to try to help find those involved in the burglary.

They added: ‘Anyone with information that could help our investigations, who saw or heard anything suspicious at this time, or has CCTV or dash cam footage that may have captured incident, please call 101, quoting incident number 234 of 15 May.

“Alternatively, you can remain completely anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers via their website Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling their UK contact center on 0800 555 111.”

No arrests have yet been made
