Gateshead newlyweds receive wedding surprise from The Script ahead of Utilita Arena gig UK News

A Gateshead couple were given a big surprise on their wedding day when The Script wished them congratulations at Newcastle Quayside.

Michelle and Nigel White were a couple at the Copthorne Hotel when photographer Zoe McKegney suggested they take pictures in front of the Quayside Bridges. And the photos coincided with the members of the Script group taking a walk before their The biggest hits concert at the Utilita Arena on Saturday night.

However, neither the couple nor the photographer recognized the Irish trio until singer Danny O’Donoghue removed his hoodie and sunglasses!

Michelle said: “We came out and saw them walking and we were going to heckle them and say ‘you look like you’re in a boy band. “The guy turned around and asked if we wanted a picture and I did ‘I didn’t know who he was at first and when he took his hood off I was like oh yeah!’

“They were absolutely fabulous, absolutely adorable, they were so friendly! He said ‘I wouldn’t say a group of boys, more like a group of old men!’

Although he enjoyed Danny’s performance on the vocals and his participation in the wedding photos, nothing was going to change the couple’s choice for their first dance. Michelle continued, “You’ll laugh if I tell you what we had was Glenn Medeiros, Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You.

“I wouldn’t say a big fan (of The Script) but he (Danny) is in great shape! My husband is rolling his eyes now…”

And The Script wasn’t the only surprise the couple had on their wedding day, with Michelle’s cousin Jamie arriving from Hong Kong just three days before the wedding, as well as an aunt flying in from Australia (although they knew it). Unfortunately for most of their friends, by the time they came out for more photos, the script was gone.

Michelle added: “We had the most amazing day and we’re so happy. Honestly it was the best day we’ve ever had, it was amazing.”

The Leam Lane couple have now taken some much-needed time off for their honeymoon in Albir, Spain. It’s their first break in three years, Michelle working as an office worker at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead and Nigel an engineer at Karcher.

Michelle finished: “We are here for ten days and our only plan is to drink as much as we can and enjoy the sun. We haven’t been away for about three years so we just want to relax now because the Last two weeks have been so stressful – we’re just going to enjoy the good weather!”
