KFC will replace lettuce with cabbage Business

The vegetable shortage is the latest crisis to hit the country’s food supply this year and marks the second time KFC has been left without enough food for some of its most popular items.

Earlier this year, a chicken shortage caused by a Covid outbreak at the country’s biggest supplier forced the fast-food chain to cut its menu.

Like the rest of the world, Australia is still grappling with pandemic-related supply chain issues and ongoing labor shortages.

Russia’s war in Ukraine has further exacerbated supply problems and driven up the cost of key agricultural products such as fuel and fertilizer.

Australia, which is a major food exporter, has also been hit by extreme weather, including severe flooding that wreaked havoc in Sydney and the east coast.

The crisis contributed to a spike in inflation, with consumer prices jumping 5.1% in the first quarter – the highest growth rate in two decades.

Earlier today, the Reserve Bank of Australia shocked markets with a huge interest rate hike.

The half-percentage point increase, which was double the amount expected, comes as newly elected Prime Minister Anthony Albanese tries to weather soaring prices.
