Driver hit the road despite heavy cocaine use Bath City News

Here are the details of those recently convicted by Somerset Magistrates Court in Yeovil. Magistrates handle more than 90% of criminal cases.

These cases include minor offenses such as minor assault and driving charges. The details published below are from the official court register.

Nicholas Andrew Pankhurst, 61, of Birch Way, Weymouth, Dorset, pleaded guilty to the charge on December 26, 2021 in Weymouth of driving while intoxicated. Pankhurst was banned from holding or obtaining a driving license for 23 months, fined £311 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and £400 in costs.

Charles Vincent Guest, 31, of Roping Road, Yeovil, was sentenced on the charges of, on June 26, 2021 in Ilchester:

Driving while prohibited Driving without insurance Driving while the proportion of a controlled drug, namely benzoylecgonine, in his blood exceeded the legal limit Driving while the proportion of a controlled drug, namely cocaine, in his blood exceeded the legal limit legal limit

Driving while the proportion of a controlled drug, namely Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannibinol, in his blood exceeded the legal limit

A community order was issued and Guest was banned from holding or obtaining a driving license for 18 months and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £95 and £85 in costs.

Ryley Jai Murtagh, 21, of Upper Town Lane, Bristol, has pleaded not guilty to charges of failing to provide information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle who was accused of having committed an offence. Murtagh was found guilty by the magistrates. Murtagh was banned from holding or obtaining a driving license for 6 months, fined £660 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £66 and £90 in costs.

Jamie Dane Davey, 48, of Combe Street Lane, Yeovil, pleaded not guilty to charges of, on May 20, 2021 at Westfield Road, Yeovil:

Aggression by beating Using threatening or abusive words or behavior

Davey was found guilty by the magistrates. A community order was made, a restraining order was issued and Davey was ordered to pay £200 compensation, a £95 victim fine surcharge and £200 costs.

Bethan Hayes-Drury, 30, of Orchard Street, Blandford Forum, Dorset, convicted on November 29, 2019 in Gillingham, Dorset, of stealing property belonging to Waitrose. Hayes-Drury was fined £155 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and £150 in costs.

Stephen Andrew Cooper, 39, of Stiby Road, Yeovil, pleaded guilty to charges of:

Cooper also pleaded not guilty to the charge of having, on September 29, 2021 in Yeovil, used threatening, abusive or insulting language or behavior. Cooper was found guilty by the magistrates. Cooper was given a suspended prison sentence of 16 weeks and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £128 and £150 in costs.

Samuel William Guy Stark, 27, of Naish Barton, East Coker, pleaded guilty to the charge of, on December 2, 2020 in Martock, assault by battery. A community order was issued and Stark was ordered to pay £500 compensation, a £95 victim surcharge and £250 costs.

Alan Bell, 58, of East Street, Crewkerne, was sentenced on the charge on March 15, 2021 in Yeovil of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour. Bell was fined £169 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and £60 in costs.

Vivian John Babbs, 65, of Tremade Lane, Dobwalls, Liskeard, Cornwall, pleaded guilty to charges of, on August 20, 2021, at the A303 near Sparkford, driving at 98mph. Babbs was given six driving points, fined £400 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £40 and £90 in costs.

Thomas Jelbert, 34, of Caird Avenue, New Milton, Hampshire, pleaded guilty to the charge of, on May 27, 2021, at the A303 near Sparkford, driving at 89mph. Jelbert received three driving points, a £300 fine and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and £90 in costs.
