GMB presenter Richard Madeley will take a long break from the ITV show UK News

Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Madeley has said he plans to take a long summer break from the show. During his time on the ITV program he was hit with complaints from Ofcom for the opinions he expressed while making headlines for a number of gaffes.

Madeley, 66, usually sits alongside Susanna Reid on the Monday-Wednesday breakfast show each week as part of a group of male co-presenters who joined after Piers Morgan left . It is during an appearance at the Sunday Brunch that he will be absent from Good Morning Britain in the coming months, reports the Mirror.

He told hosts Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy: “Since Piers left, as you know, his chair has been kind of a rotating gig and all kinds of presenters have come in and done it. It’s true that those Lately I’ve kind of I guess I’ve reached the top of that pile, but I don’t know for how long because I’m on a pretty short contract.

“I don’t know what will happen. I have a pretty big break in the summer, I go to France and I often come back in the fall. But for next year, I have no idea and that is fine for me. I don’t chase him, you know.

“If they turn around and say ‘We’re getting the program going again and thank Richard for all the fish but we’re going to use such and such’, that would be fine with me.”

Madeley also opened up about his projects beyond the ITV early morning programme, saying that as he got older he started taking on projects for fun, instead of climbing the career ladder.

It comes after Richard admitted he was unsure about his future on Good Morning Britain while speaking on Kate Thornton’s White Wine Question Time podcast.

Richard said: “But in terms of what I’m doing on my own, which at the moment is Good Morning Britain, although who knows how long that will be.

“I’m doing it month to month at the moment and I’m very happy with it. I like to grow at this level, I’ve had my main career curve. I’m not looking for a huge career arc, we’ll see what will happen. But I like it, I like doing it.
