Great British Food Awards: Sussex businesses win big Brighton News

Montezuma’s chocolates picked up three awards in the national competition with its Hibiscus Chocolate Truffle highly rated in two categories.

Sussex vineyards also dominated the wine category with half of all the wines that won awards coming from the county.

Ridgeview’s Fitzrovia Rose wine was handed a gold award while wines from Bolney Wine Estate near Haywards Heath also won silver awards.

Bolney’s Vintage Release 2013 and Pinot Noir 2022 were recognised in the awards.

Ridgeview’s Fitzrovia Rose is described as a “delicate salmon colour” with tasting notes of raspberry, citrus and honey.

The sparkling wine was also served to Barack Obama at a Buckingham Palace State Banquet according to the Ridgeview website.

The vineyard’s English Rose 2022 was also given a bronze award.

Elsewhere in the awards Bush Barn Farm’s fresh elderberries and elderflowers were recognised as the best food and drink in London and the South East.

The Robertsbridge Farm also produces a range of elderflower and elderberry products including cordials and dried fruits.

The Great British Food Awards were launched in 2014 and “celebrate the country’s finest artisanal produce as well as the hard-working people behind the scenes”.

The awards include a number of categories including cheese, artisan drinks and other types of food and drink.

The winners were announced on October 28.
