One fifth of councils oppose clean energy projects despite declaring a climate emergency | UK | News UK News

Britain Remade said 70 out of 370 councils have blocked planning applications for wind and solar farms, battery storage facilities and electric vehicle charging.

The projects could produce more than 4.4 gigawatts of clean energy – enough to power 4.4 million homes with low-cost electricity.

Sam Richards, of Britain Remade, said: “Some examples are breathtaking – a hotel wanted to cut its carbon footprint, but the council won’t let them install solar panels.”
