It means flooding is possible and people should be prepared.
The Environment Agency advised: “Monitor local water levels and weather conditions, avoid using low lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding. Start acting on your flood plan if you have one.”
It comes as the Met Office warned severe gales and rain could lead to disruption to transport and infrastructure.
A yellow weather warning for wind is in place until 11.59pm tonight.

Climping seafront
The EA said: “A small amount of water could find its way behind the beach and may pond on nearby land and fields including at Climping Street Car Park and Mill Lane. Wave heights will increase through to Sunday evening, before reducing by Monday afternoon. Similar minor flood impacts affecting Climping will occur over high water in the early hours of Monday.”
Seaford seafront
The EA said: “Very large waves will continue throughout Sunday before reducing on Monday afternoon. Similar minor flood impacts including spray affecting the esplanade will occur over high water in the early hours of Monday.”
Upper River Ems Valley
The EA said: “Groundwater is high and close to the surface but currently slowly falling at the Compton borehole. Small amounts of rain or showers are forecast up to New Year’s Day.
“Minor groundwater flood impacts will likely continue, with springs affecting fields, the village green at Stoughton and rural roads including Stoughton main road, the road from East Marden and also between Cooks Lane and The Barley Mow, and the B2146 near Woodlands Lane, in Walderton.
“Unsettled weather with rain at times is forecast through to the middle of January. If you have pumps to help reduce groundwater levels in your property, ensure they are operational.”
West Dean, Singleton, Charlton, East Dean and Chilgrove
The EA said: “Groundwater is high and close to the surface, but very slowly falling. Minor groundwater flood impacts are expected to continue, with water flowing on roads, in basements or under floorboards, and affecting the ability of the sewage network to operate in East Dean, Charlton, Singleton and West Dean. Water could also affect the B2141 Chilgrove road. Small amounts of rain or showers are forecast up to New Year’s Day.
“Groundwater at Chilgrove’s borehole, is expected to continue falling, but at the East Dean borehole, groundwater will stay at the surface. Flood impacts are expected to remain until the middle of January, and potentially longer, or affecting more people if wet weather continues. If you have pumps to help reduce groundwater levels in your property, ensure they are operational.”
Upper River Medway from Forest Row to Penshurst, including Ashurst
The EA said: “Further showers are forecast this morning and further rain is due later on New Year’s Day. River levels are forecast to rise and remain relatively high until at least Tuesday. Our incident response staff are closing flood gates and checking defences. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.”
