Environment Agency flood warnings still in place in Sussex Brighton News

Due to days of heavy rainfall there are still two warnings and several flood alerts active in the county.

Roads, fields and houses across Sussex experienced flooding last week as multiple weather warnings were issued by the Met Office.

A flood warning from the Environment Agency means flooding is expected and to act now.

Warnings are in place and were updated this morning at:

Bersted on the Aldingbourne Rife

EA said: “The Aldingbourne Rife is high, but now slowly falling following Thursday’s rain. Flood impacts will continue to affect the car park at Tesco in Shripney Road and around caravans at Riverside Caravan Centre, Bersted.

“Flood water will also affect businesses on Durban Road, Bersted. Flood water will be extensive through fields and on roads, including near Shripney Lane.

“Very little rain (0-5mm) is forecast for the next five days. The Aldingbourne Rife has been falling since 4pm 05/01/2024 and will continue to do so. However, property flooding in Bersted could remain until next week.

“The Aldingbourne Rife could remain higher than normal until the middle of January and sensitive to additional rainfall over the next few weeks. Please plan to avoid driving through routes vulnerable to flooding, including Shripney Lane. We are running our pumps at Felpham and keeping grilles clear to help reduce the risk of flooding.”
