Internet mafias want to make maximum profit

Hospitals, town halls, businesses: in one year, the number of cyberattacks has quadrupled in France. The president wants to make cybersecurity a priority. This is why Emmanuel Macron met by videoconference on Thursday February 18 with the heads of hospitals in Dax (Landes) and Villefranche-sur-Saône (Rhône), recently targeted. Internet mafias very often claim their attacks under enigmatic names, like Conti or Ryuk.

Their technique is to encrypt a company’s data and then demand a ransom. These organizations are often based in Eastern Europe but operate all over the world. “Today we are really dealing with cybercrime SMEs which are very organized with a division of tasks, a rationalization of their operation with one objective: to make maximum profits at the expense of our private and public organizations”, explains Gérome Billois, cybersecurity specialist for the Wavestone firm.
