Janssen vaccine awaits validation in Europe

After Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca, the latest addition is the Janssen vaccine from the US group Johnson & Johnson. This vaccine could be the fourth vaccine against Covid-19 to get a European green light.

It has many advantages: it can be stored in a standard refrigerator, which would make it easier to use, especially in town medicine or in pharmacies. In addition, it only requires one injection.

In addition, the Janssen vaccine is a viral vector vaccine, like Astra Zeneca. It is effective overall at 66%, but with much better protection for severe forms, which can lead to intensive care. It exceeds 80% in tests conducted in South Africa, Ethe United States and Brazil, which is comparable to the best vaccines. The European Medicines Agency must decide on Thursday, March 11 whether it gives the green light for the use of this vaccine on European territory.
