Lucio Tropea is the new CEO of Smart Italia, the company (with single shareholder smart Europe GmbH) that deals in our country with the marketing of products and services, the result of the joint venture between Mercedes-Benz AG and Geely Holding. Tropea, which reports directly to Dirk Adelmann, CEO of smart Europe GmbH, has the task of developing the organization of the brand which has always had the highest number of fans worldwide in Italy.
Forty-one years old, married with one daughter, and a graduate in economics (the thesis, dated 2003, concerned the effects of the block exemption on automotive distribution in Europe), Tropea had his very first professional experiences in a consulting and research company specialized in the automotive sector and joined Mercedes in 2004. in Mercedes-Benz Italy as a market analyst in the second-hand sector. Sector in which he had various responsibilities, from residual value management to risk management, from remarketing to the certified second-hand program. An area in which it has helped to give Mercedes and smart back its leadership position in terms of residual value and volumes traded, introducing – an absolute innovation for Italy – the full 4-year guarantee for used cars.
From 2015 to 2018, Tropea was sales manager smart in Italy, contributing to the success of the third generation of the city car with a long series of special and limited editions, tailor-made commercial offers and innovative services around the car, including parking and recharging reserved for the pioneers of the electric car.
In 2018 Tropea joined Enel X as Head of Global Marketing e-mobility, where he helped define the portfolio of charging solutions and agreements with car manufacturers, accelerating the transition to electric mobility. A new, important baggage of experience with which, from 1 April, it will re-enter the smart universe, ready to write the next chapter of the first brand totally converted to electric.
