restoring orange juice every day could help improve brain function, a 2015 study suggested.
The study, from the University of Reading, asked 37 adults to consume 500 ml of orange juice per day for eight weeks. At the end of the study period that saw an 8 percent overall improvement in cognitive function compared to those who drank a control drink.
Study co-author Dr Daniel Lamport attributed this improvement to the natural ‘flavonoids’ in orange juice which have been shown to improve cognitive ability through activation of signaling pathways. in the hippocampus, part of the brain associated with learning and memory.
Lamport said, “Small, easy-to-administer daily diet changes, such as eating fruits and vegetables that are higher in flavonoids, have the potential to dramatically improve brain health.”
