We are told that the motivation for forming a “European Super League” is greed. But is it also a free market economy?
Supporters of the Separatist League and their funders are clearly convinced that it would generate much larger broadcasting and sponsorship revenues than the current arrangements.
Why? Because the new format – with some of Europe’s strongest teams playing against each other regularly – is, we’re told, what football fans would rather see and, most importantly, pay more to watch.
