Covid in Somerset: Latest infections and deaths in the county Bath City News

There have been 25 new confirmed Covid cases in Somerset in the past 24 hours, with no new deaths in the county.

Government figures show that the number of deaths within 28 days of a positive test recorded in the county since the first pandemic hit remains at 1,200.

The areas with the largest increase in virus cases are North Somerset and Sedgemoor, with seven new infections reported in each on Wednesday (April 21).

There were four new cases in Mendip, three each in Bath and North East Somerset and Somerset West and Taunton, and one in South Somerset.

Somerset’s 29 new cases are part of a total of 2,396 registered across the UK in the past 24 hours, bringing the national total to 4,395,703.

The number of positive test results in each area since the start of the pandemic are shown below, with the new positive test results in parentheses.

UK figures

There were 22 people whose deaths were recorded today, within 28 days of testing positive, across the UK.

More than 127,000 people have lost their lives across the UK since the start of the pandemic, but the daily death toll has been falling since the second peak on January 19.

There were also 192 people admitted to hospital across the UK in the most recent figures, with the previous seven days total now standing at 1,369 – a drop of more than 200 from the previous week.

As it stands, the number of people who received their first dose of the vaccine has exceeded 33 million, the current total being 33,139,742.

There are also now over 10 million people who have received their second stroke.
