Crews confirmed that the factory fire involved a large number of wooden pallets creating a huge plume of thick smoke over the city. The fire is in the Sparkhill area.
The West Midlands Fire Department said: “We saw a big factory fire in Sparkhill. We have over 125 firefighters handling the blaze.
“We recommend that the surrounding windows and doors remain closed for the next few hours.”
Eight fire engines were initially dispatched to the scene, but a subsequent message from the fire department said eight more had been deployed.
Details of the fire were first posted on Twitter around 11 p.m. Thursday evening.
The West Midlands Fire Department has advised the public to stay clear of the area surrounding Pentos Drive to allow fire trucks full access to the area.
