A man sustained serious head injuries after falling from rocks on the promenade in Whitley Bay.
Emergency services were called to the Whitley Bay waterfront on Friday just before 7 p.m.
Northumbria Police, the North East Ambulance Service and a team from the Tynemouth Life Volunteer Brigade all witnessed the scene.
An area of the waterfront was cordoned off as emergency services rushed to help the man.
He was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary after suffering a serious head injury.
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 6:51 pm to receive reports of someone falling from rocks on the promenade at Whitley Bay.
“Four members of our HART team, an officer, a paramedic, and the air ambulance all assisted and took a male patient to the RVI by road with a severe head injury.”
